Laptop screen

My laptop has its own mind... It'll turn on, but the screen will go on SELECTIVE times... like, when i close it (IF it turns the sctreen on in the first place) it'll keep the screen off. So, any help, this is my first laptop, lol

Some laptops are annoyin like that, like with my one, when deres so screen, keep the Function key held for a few seconds, and make sure its not trying to send the picture to the monitor port aswell, had dat problem a few times with mine. it was always da function key that was behind da trouble though.

On my Compaq I had similiar problems related to the video card not kicking back in. Try hitting the little sensor that detects if the screen is closed, that usually worked for me. Otherwise I could also try kicking it into presentation / external monitor mode, and when it failed (cause nothing was plugged in) it would turn the lcd back on.

If it doesn't come on at all upon startup (and you had the screen open to begin with) I'd probably contact dell support... no laptop should do that.
