    Re: How much Ram

No such thing as too much RAM, the higher the RAM the more operating capabilities your computer has at the same time. Of course a over kill of RAM would be for person who uses their computer for just emails, maybe surfs the net a little, and doesn't run multiple programs at once. I have a powerbook with 2GB RAM, i run many programs at the same time (8-10) even while updating my software, and my Mac never slows down, if someone is afraid of a RAM over kill, then reduce the RAM when purchasing a computer and increase your RAM later on if needed. Just my opinion.

    Re: How much Ram

aaah something i can help out with
so with a 32bit OS your pc will only register or 'use' 3.2 GIG max.
so if you have 4Gb then you should install a 64bit OS to utilize all of your ram.
the maximum you can go is 16Gb if i'm not wrong. and it depends on the mobo
unless you go for some high prize server rack then ram has no limits i guess
but as for now i'd say 2Gb is enough for the casual pc user.
then again gamers can use a little bit more (with those big lvl textures which take up alot) and so do ppl who use heavy visual programs. and the fast gpu too offcourse
    but 2Gb should do
    4Gb is luxury
8Gb is just to show of hehe

    Re: How much Ram

The most you can properly get on a 32 bit os, is 2.5 GB, although sometimes more ram can be registered (up to 3.5 gig in some circumstances) However on a 64 bit OS you can have upto however much RAM is usable by the Motherboard which is currently about 16 GB currently although Apple allows 32 GB of ram in its Powermac

    Re: How much Ram

Windows XP 32-bit, technically will recognize 4gig of RAM, BUT if you look at your system information you will be lucky to see it recognizing 3.0GB. I believe this has to do with something about your graphics card on board memory and other such randomness...

It depends on the applications you use...thats the personal limit. I agree with some members, that 3 Gigs in enough, even if you game on Vista Ultimate!

    Re: How much Ram

It is never too much RAM there can only not be enough. Believe me that your computer will work much better with more RAM, for normal work 2GB is more than enough, but it depends what you use your computer for. If you have money buy 4GB, you will not regret your decision.

    Re: How much Ram

Its all depends upon what you want from your system and how much money can you spent on it.

One can have 10GB ram if the system has capacity to support it. I have 1GB RAM and i am pretty satisfied with it.

Anyone can buy 8 gigs of RAM

The fact is when if you're in the market for a new laptop, say for instance the HP HDX18, HP will allow you to customize it with 8 gigs of RAM. Ditto for Dell's high end laptop. I know, because I just bought one with 8 gigs of RAM, though I haven't used it as I'm probrably going to take it back for a refund.

Go to Dell's or HP's website and you can customize one for fun if you want to verify the max amount of RAM that comes with a higher end laptop these days. Unfortunately, they don't come with solid state hard drives, though I heard that Dell sells a Netbook that has an SS drive, though I didn't confirm it.
