hmm........
I would use an SBlive of some description. Most other cards out there now support DLS format samples...so you would have to use somthing like awave to convert the format.
If you are a cakewalk user (9.0 or above) you could use livesynth pro which has a software SF2 synth.

If you go for one of the older cheaper AWE32's you can bung loads of the old 80pin memory on it, I think it was about 28 mb sample memory, on the other hand the new SB cards use ur internal memory if you have enuff

I need to go forward
I have the Audigy - and use 285mb Soundfonts
With the newest drivers(1 August 2002 - i still get soundfont
sounds get cut short.
So - i am looking around....

Micijanus, how much memory is in your system?
I have 768 MB and have no problem with sound cut offs.

I outgrew the SBlive a long time ago.
The sound quality is NOT the same.
In a few days I get my Audigy 2
- they call it the servicepack of Audigy 1.
I hope my problem is solved.

The clarity is much higher!
Updated drivers even support IntelP4 new multi-threading.

I forgot to answer - I have 512 MB Rambus 800mHz
on my system... on a genuine Intel MB
- think my PIII 800 is to slow for the new stuff

I can only recommend the Audigy. With the latest drivers it works perfect. But I would take at least 2oooMhZ Intel. with 528 Ram.
