I hope I am posting this in the right spot.
I have a Toshiba laptop running xp, I have internet via a dsl modem and a wireless router. Until a couple of months ago everything was fine, but now when I boot up it takes a long time to connect to the router causing my auto msn sign-in to always time out.
Does anyone have any idea as to how to get things back in order, internet connect then msn sign-in?

Re: internet sign-in
Well, could it just be the computer is slightly slow? I also suggest you don't have MSN Messenger turn on and login when the computer turns on automatically. This can drastically slow down other computer operations.
You need to ensure that everything only turns on when you want it to for optimum performance.
If the internet issue continues, contact your ISP.

Re: internet sign-in
Unplug the modem and the router.
Reboot laptop.
Plug in modem and router.
Reboot laptop.
Connect to internet.
Right click your internet icon (lower right corner)
Select repair. (This is the same as the IPrenew operation) ignore last message.
This should refresh your internet settings.
Then for optimum performance download crapcleaner and run it every dayIf you find this post helpful, click on bottom of each post: Like l Share

Re: internet sign-in
There could be various causes for this. The first would be the distance you are from the router - if you've started to use the laptop somewhere where the signal can become obstructed, then this may be affecting it. It could also be a change in temperature, as the temperarture can vary the signal quality and strength (although this is unlikely if it's going as far as timing out). Another reason may be that your firewall has decided to monitor and "play" with MSN, making it take longer to connect to the router.
Other things that you may want to consider, are re-installing your LAN drivers on your laptop, clearing out your temporary file cache, running a virus scan and defragmenting your system. You may also want to monitor how quickly any other computers connected to the network can sign in and also to perhaps check the settings at the routers end .Last edited by Zarphor92; 02-22-2009 at 02:26 PM.

Re: internet sign-in
Do you have dial-up?
The yellow armor represents that windows is installing needed updates. The updates PREVENT your computer from attacks and updates some other needed stuff.
If you have dial-up...it can take hours to update...so when you decide to logoff internet and shut down, it has to restart because the task was incomplete...that's why it's always there.
