I don't think there is a MIDI to MP3 converter..
But if you convert the MIDI into WAV first, and then WAV to MP3 it should work.

the only problem, is that the result will be different on each computer. In fact, it's the soundcard who play the music, with the instruments sounds that the manufacturer choosed. So a midi-->mp3 done with a cheaper sound card, will be really awfull in comparison with a midi-->mp3 done with a Sound Blaster live/Audigy
Bye bye,

After you convert them to WAV - you can always add reverb or an acoustic environment simulation to bring them out.
Use your favorite Audio Editor - Cool Edit, etc.
Then convert to mp3 (or OGG, which sounds much better)[.home] [.faq] [.search] [.active] [.chat] [.hitrax]

I just downloaded that WinGroove program.. pretty neef tee!
But, if you are wanting absolutely the best quality renders for CDs.. that is, to play in the car or render that MIDI masterpiece you've been working on, or whatever, you might check out WAVMaker package also. It was written by some guy with like a degree in soundwaves or something (I read a bio of him somewhere a long time ago, and yes, he does really have a degree in some aspect of sound/music.. in the technical side of things.. how sound waves interact and the like.) This program is absolutely amazing.
You can find it at polyhedric.com
Now, to be fair, you can't get much use out of it without buying his GSound sample library for 30 bucks, but it is still very impressive... it's basically a software solution for a synth.. that is, you don't need expensive external equipment.. just import your sound samples for midi voices and get goin.. it's very concievable to create CD quality music from scratch with his software, once you get the hang of things.
It does have a bit of a learning curve. If you download WAVMaker, there are 5 demo midis you can render for examples, but almost any other midi you try to render will fail (because it can't find any samples for the instruments used in those
midi files) After you render them, you will find the WAV files in the "SONG" directory (you will have to use windows explorer to get to them to play them.)
I think the MIDINight express is a realtime encoder, provided you have a fast enough machine. The WAVMaker package lets you render MIDI to wav, but won't play the rendered MIDI in realtime.
He has two sample files on his website to show the difference between his output and the output from a SB Awe 64. Those files have .wav extensions and won't play in Winamp.. to fix them, just make them .mpg files, since they are MPEG encoded. Just because he's a sound genius doesn't mean he's good with computers and file extensions.. hehe.
Anyway, sorry to make it sound like a commercial for the guy, but I was so impressed by his WAVMaker that I up and bought it a long time ago.. I use it to render background tracks for my Flash animations from MIDI files I find... much easier than finding instrumental versions of the songs in question. (I haven't looked for cr@cks for his stuff on Kaza or w@rez sites in a while, but last time I checked, over a year ago, there weren't any.. too obscure of a program, I think)
EDIT: The two example files included with WAVMaker that I think show the most dramatic improvment are synthy and psycho. The other three are mainly piano examples (But MAN, does that piano sound GOOOOD)

WinAMP has some disk writing mechanism for the synthesized MIDI input filters doesn't it?

You could always try ModPlug Tracker http://www.modplug.com/
It's free and will open MIDI files. I'm pretty sure you can then save them as WAVs or MP3s, although I haven't specifically done that yet.

MODPlug tracker is one of the coolest programs I've come across. It truly does make me happy.
As far as Windows Programs go, that is.
