Personally I hate Windows ME. It's the only one that I haven't been able keep stable.
Currently on 6 weeks of uptime with win2k. I think that's pretty good going for a desktop PC in permanent use.

Windows ME is the worst, with it's memory management problems - - with 98 (1st OR SE) running a close 2nd. For MS-DOS based Windows, the most stable versions were 3.11 and 95 (ha ha)... There is no comparison in stability between ANY MS-DOS based Windows version and NT-based Versions (like NT, 2000 or XP)

Worst Windows has to be Windows XP followed by ME, I use Win98 SE with no problems, also use WIn2000 again very stable but have seen ME in inaction and XP I cannot get into or find where it puts the files. Win 95 when you look back was good and on a modern system is turbo lightning fast! Have briefly dabbled with linux so might try one on a spare computer shortly.

XP is bad? Definately ME, but XP? For Linux, you should either download KNOPPIX, or buy RedHat 9 with the manuals at your local computer software retailer or download the redistribution package for free. All are in ISO format here: http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/rh9.html
