Does anyone have any idea what this file is. Norton finds it and quarantines it but at start up windows xp looks for the file. I hit ok and my pc starts up. When I shut down and restart I always get "disc needs to be checked for inconsistency" This was pissing me off so I restored the ns32task.exe file from quarantine but Norton tells me it may be infected but I no longer get the "disc needs to be checked for inconsistency" message but as Norton continues to virus check it quarantines it constantly.
Any ideas from anyone.
(I would ask Norton but it's a copied CD.)

Have you tried copying the ns32task.exe from another PC?
Try replacing the file, if that fails i'd have a look around the Norton site, should be a knowledge base, search for that file and see if theres any known viruses, should have a way to resolve it.

Thanks Dougie, I'll try both those things and will let you know.
