Hey folks,
Has anyone found a good SoftSynth to use on Windows XP? Yamaha's stuff only supports 95/98/NT/2k/Me. I've got a nice DB50XG, but it's a daughtercard - requires an ISA slot (*curses*). I'd be glad to shell out the dough for Yamaha's SoftSynth if it would only install. Any other likely candidates I should be looking at? TIA!

Try Wingroove. It is compatible with xp and is great.
the new wingroove version can be downloaded here http://www.wg7.com/en/

BTW, tried WinGroove here at work. Sounds pretty good... except...
The sawtooth lead (GM 82) sounds like it's gonna throw up!
I used that voice extensively in my last sequence (seen in Original Music), and man!! That's some muddy distorted sound .

youve probably got a silly soundcard in your comp in work.
go into the wingroove settings and try recalibrating it or try reducing the quality of the output in the settings to a lower number.
It works fine for me.
I had the noise you mean and after fine tuning the settings it worked much better. I am using a soundblaster 128 soundcard which is quite old now but works with np with wingroove.

I may give it a try here at home, too. Thanks for the advice!

Well, I've tried this at work (crappy machine & sound system) and it beats the hell out of MS Soft Synth, and most hardware wavetable sound cards I've ever heard. It's just about as good as my Yamaha DB50XG, which is saying a lot for a software synth. Not to mention that it supports the XG MIDI extension. It's free to try for 30 days, and fairly cheap thereafter, I believe. Just thought I'd comment on the results...
Great for those MIDI collections we've all got...- Member of theBlue Turnip Fanclub Name Glow

Incidentally, it's also much better (IMO) than WinGroove, which I also tried here. YMMV.

And, Duh!, forgot to mention it is available on Win 95/98/Me/XP/2000 - although there are 2 different downloads (95/98/Me and 2000/XP).
