    8x dvd writers are out overseas already, so give it a month or so to reach here.

    I believe Plextor already has an 8x DVD+RW/-RW drive out here in the states. Think it's priced around $300

    Not too many 8x discs out so far. You're better off with a dual format 4x drive for $120.
