The BlackBerry 10 operating system has been in the works for quite some time. We've seen numerous sneak peek videos throughout the entirety of year 2012 and now, after all this waiting the latest platform from RIM is finally officially detailed and announced.
RIM is now holding numerous events not only in Toronto, but also in New York, Paris, Dubai, London and Johannesburg, where the latest BB 10 OS is being showcased in its full glory for the very first time. The RIM CEO Thorsten Heins took the stage not long ago and announced that the BlackBerry 10 OS is a platform that expands its horizons. It's been designed to go beyond the idea that BlackBerry smartphones are designed mainly for businessmen and he claimed that a great deal of attention has been given to the social networking aspect.
Another thing that is definitely noteworthy is the fact that during the event, Thorsten Heins has also announced that the RIM moniker will be replaced by "BlackBerry". In his own words it is one brand, it is one promise. From today on, we are BlackBerry everywhere in the world.
Quite interesting bits of news, but as we all know this new event and all the hype is not attributed only to the new operating system, but also to the upcoming hardware that is supposed to carry it. I'm referring of course to the
BlackBerry Z10 and the
Q10, the former being a full-touch smartphone whereas the latter being a more traditional QWERTY-ed BlackBerry device, but with a touchscreen.
There have been plenty of leaks indicating what could make the Z10 tick and we're expecting the handset to arrive with a 4.2 inch display featuring a resolution of
768 x 1280, a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage expandable by up to 32 GB via microSD, an 8 MP camera on the back mated with a 2 MP front-facing sensor and a 1,800 mAh battery.
Unfortunately, information regarding the hardware inside the Q10 is scarce, but RIM (or should I say Black Berry) has uploaded a new video on its official YouTube channel today, showcasing the Q10 and some of its features. No exact hardware specifications have been given, but the company claims that the Q10 boasts the largest battery ever fitted on a BlackBerry smartphone.
Take a look at the video below and enjoy! Is anyone excited about what BlackBerry has in store for us?
