Cell Phone Reviews

Ok, I know it's not a cell phone, but I figured some of you guys would be interested a review as cellphones are starting to come on-board with pico projectors and this would give a good comparison as it's a standalone product.

I got my Aaxatech micro projector in the mail yesterday. Here’s a quick write-up on it:

The unit comes in a cheesy box – I guess they weren’t kidding about cutting costs. Included is an RCA input cable, charger, and the projector and that's it...

The projector itself looks well built – tolerances look tight, the plastic looks high grade plastic, the unit appears durable, all the adjustments and buttons are easy to use.

The unit is fairly light, fits perfectly in my hand, and is about the size of my Blackberry pearl – just thicker.

After hearing some pretty bad reviews of other micro projectors I didn't know what to expect. But I turned on the projector in my room and was pleasantly surprised – the picture quality was actually fairly bright and the resolution was good. The on-board menu system is nice to have although the interface reminds me of some low-end DVD players. I loaded some pictures and videos on my micro SD card (which I had to buy myself) and started watching. The ability to load directly to the projector is extremely nice as most of the other projectors on the market do not have video / image decoding and this is what compelled me to buy the Aaxatech unit in the first place. I did manage to crash it with a 1024x720 video, which required a hard reset (remove / replace the battery) however which was kind of lame.

A 20-30” image is definitely watchable even in a fairly bright room. With the lights off a 60-70” image is surprisingly good - definitely viewable. I’ve taken some pictures of the projector in a bright and dark room. The onboard speaker is ok for what it is, crappy but usable. The volume adjustment knob is nice.

Overall I am pleasantly surprised and very happy with this projector. It is definitely a fun gadget / toy to own and I’m having a lot of fun with it.

PROS:
*Good picture brightness and quality
*Good resolution sharp picture
*Well built high quality case
*Built-in video decoding with micro SD card
*Totally portable, fits in my pocket with my blackberry

CONS:
*Bare bones – doesn’t come with SD card or usb cable, no tripod
*File system is picky – doesn’t like some files
*Battery life is short
*Fan is loud, speaker is weak
