The excitement has been building up over the Nokia Lumia 900 smartphone. AT&T has pushed it hard on the market even saying that this is one of the biggest smartphone releases they have ever had. They have deals going with Walmart and they themselves are offering the handset for a penny under $100 dollars. What you just missed was the online offer on the AT&T web site. This was an "online only" offer that required a two year contract. It was an unusual move on the part of AT&T, but the window of opportunity is now closed.

What is the big fuss over the Nokia Lumia 900 smartphone? For one, it is Nokia's try at getting back into the United States market. Google and Apple are commanding the market share in the United States. Nokia has been failing ever since the new CEO took up office. The new CEO also decided to dump the Meego and Symbian projects and go with Microsoft and their "Windows Phone 7" mobile operating system. What was wrong with Meego or Symbian? Nothing was wrong with either, it was an unfortunate decision that is costing Nokia their business. Which is why the Lumia 900 is so important. If this one handset does not grab the hearts and minds of smartphone users, Nokia could possibly be up for sale. This is one of those "last ditch" efforts by Nokia to stay afloat, economically speaking.

The Nokia Lumia 900 handset runs the Microsoft Windows Phone 7.5 mobile operating system. There is not much feedback on this platform, since they have less than 20 percent of smartphone market share. Android and iOS have more than 80 percent of the United States smartphone market. That means they have the advantage of something called "mindshare". The current Android-iPhone fanboy arguments are a regular scene online. No one is clamoring for a smartphone with Windows Phone 7 on it. Does that mean it is unpleasant to use it? The platform is actually laid out well, with six hubs that cover most all of every day life. It is not bad, just unpopular.

To get a Nokia Lumia 900 smartphone at the current "rock bottom" price, you will need to go to Walmart. They are offering another online deal to get the Nokia handset for $50 dollars. They even offer it in two colors, cyan and black. How long the offer will last is anyone's guess, but it is available as of this writing. If you think about it, the $100 is not a bad price to pay for a smartphone of this caliber. The looks are great ( It resembles the unpopular N9. ), the screen is AMOLED and it comes in three colors. A white model in addition to the cyan and black is available.

The Lumia 900 is going to go on sale tomorrow. Getting it will be a major change if you are used to an iPhone or Android smartphone. But variety is the spice of life. Nokia is presenting their best work along with Microsoft. The "do or die" attitude of Nokia is admirable, but soon the markets will know what is going to become of this company with the sales of this one single smartphone.
