Nvidia has recently announced its Tegra 4 CPU, calling it the fastest mobile processor to date. Truth be told, their demonstration was quite impressive and the Tegra 4 SoC really is a beast, but Nvidia isn't the only CPU manufacturer to make a big announcement during CES and Qualcomm has also been working on some pretty powerful processors of its own.

Introducing the new Snapdragon series, the 600 and 800 are the latest Qualcomm system on chips, and boy are they powerful?!

The Snapdragon S4 Pro chip powering the HTC DROID DNA, the Nexus 4 and the LG Optimus G is quite impressive, but the 600 series is said to deliver 40% better performance than the S4 Pro. The chipset features a quad core Krait 300 CPU clocked at 1.9 GHz per core, an Adreno 320 graphics chip and it also supports LPDDR3 RAM.

But impressive as it is, the 600 is shadowed by it's more powerful counterpart - the Snapdragon 800 - which delivers a quad core Krait 400 CPU running at frequencies of 2.3 GHz per core and featuring an Adreno 330 GPU, 2X32 bit LPDDR3 800 MHz RAM compatibility, 4G LTE Cat 4 and 820.11ac support, as well as UltraHD resolution (4096 x 2304), DTS-HD, 7.1 Surround sound and Dolby Digital Plus support.

The Snapdragon 800 also features Dual Image Signal Processors up to 55 MP and overall, it's said to be up to 75% more powerful than the ongoing S4 Pro chip.

Both CPUs are destined for commercial use and are expected to power certain smartphones starting with mid-2013.

Whether or not the Tegra 4 will remain the "world's fastest mobile processor" once these two Qualcomm SoCs hit the scene remains to be seen, but one thing is certain, and that's the fact that this year the mobile market segment will deliver some pretty impressive, jaw-dropping, powerful devices.
