No, T-Mobile is the only provider that sells the sidekick. Even if you bought an unlocked sidekick to use with a different provider, it would only work as a phone and none of the data services would be accessible. Sorry!

Also, since it lacks the GSM 850mhz band, it wouldn't get reception in some areas.

I would of guessed that a company as large as Tmobile, would have coverage just about everywhere. hmm, =( sorry about Minnesota! well.. anyways, as brad said, tmobile is the only company that sells sidekicks..

Actually, Northern Minnesota do have GSM/GPRS service area, but not through T-Mobile network. My Sidekick works just fine I was able to use messenger from Grand Forks, ND to Duluth, MN along Highway 2, to visit my families. Sidekick II is real nice, but in your area is roaming, dont worry you always can get it from T-Mobile store in Minnesota anywhere nearby to you. T-Mobile is nationwide carrier, you wouldn't be roaming any extra charges in Northern Minnesota area at all.. Its just cuz you cant buy it or order directly from T-Mobile online or over the phone is reason your area is not T-Mobile in result its not available to you to them at T-Mobile, but really it is available to you if you go to T-Mobile store and one more thing.. you have to get or be on post pay acct to roam anywhere networks in the US other than T-Mobile USA network.. I also know Minnesota has Cingular coverage and pretty soon T-Mobile prepaid customer will able to roam Cingular as well.. Check it out if Cingular in ur area you can defintely try it out To Go also if theres Cingular in your area..

I know this wouldn't be helpful at all because you live in the US, but Fido has Sidekicks... Maybe you could purchase one online and get it unlocked?

To add to this, as Brad stated before, it would only work as a phone.

Yeah pretty much as for what I see from the map I was pretty surprise theres isnt much coverage of 1xRTT in Northern Minnestoa.. sound like only options for that are through GPRS if they want to use data.. Yeah its only way to have contract with T-Mobile to have Sidekick but I can't say its available in your area, you need to go T-Mobile's Personal Coverage Check...on their website. If it indicate your area on green spot, means u have coverage there.

Cingular does have GPRS which it will work on Sidekick data.. Really thats too bad To Go customer even still can use GPRS for prepaid service.. They SHOULD.. but I know that post pay and prepaid works different way so its just probably reason I guess...
