The 3G iPhone will be out soon, and Motorola and Nokia fanboys are
scared, so the false stories are starting.

A totally bogus (no url, let alone a rumor url) story
    of short battery life.

I recall short battery life, thats when a 1900Mhz CDMA phone goes
indoors and keeps losing and trying to regain signal, that gives one
    short battery life.

The 3G Infineon chip (PMB8878) Apple has chosen is already leaked, and
its power consumtion is well known and will allow for same ballpark
    battery life as current iPhone.

There were 366,000 hits on Google.

What I find more interesting is the solution this guy:
    http://www.mophie.com/collections/batteries
has for its poor battery performance...a piggyback battery pack MADE for
    it!

This gadget brings to iPhone the runtime of an N800 Linux tablet. Too bad
it doesn't have two SD slots, a USB port and more Bluetooth functions, too.

    $99 for Mophie.

Every time Apple screws up, some smartass comes up with a cool solution.

Just wait 6 weeks and the 3G iPhone will be announced and you
    naysayers will be proved wrong.

Huh? Nobody said it wasn't coming soon. Someone claimed that battery
life will be poorer on the 3G model, and if they measure battery life by
minutes rather than megabytes of data this is no doubt going to be the
    case if they use 3G.

However assuming that they transfer the same amount of data with 3G as
with 2G, the transfer will be faster, and then the power management will
kick in, reducing power. The battery life could actually be longer in
this case. Of course the reason the iPhone sales haven't been too good
in Europe is claimed to be due to the lack of 3G. If this is the cause
then users of the 3G iPhone may be planning to do a lot of web usage on
3G, and they may be upset over the battery life. OTOH, if you can get a
few hours of battery life while using 3G, that's going to be sufficient
for most users, and there's always the optional external battery packs
    for heavy users.

I think that's correct. The power cost of processing 3G CDMA is
still higher than GSM, but the amount of power this uses in either
mode has dropped to the point where it doesn't matter so much. And
the efficiency of RF power amplifiers seems to actually be worse for
EDGE than for 3G (the vendors of power amplifiers seem proud if they
can approach 30% efficiency for EDGE, UMTS amplifiers are usually over
40%; regular GSM is very good, though), so there may be very little
net difference between the two. The battery in my Motorola V9
actually seems to last a little longer on a strong-signal 3G network
than it does on a strong-signal EDGE network.

I hence agree that if the battery turns out not to last as long
in a 3G iPhone this is most likely only because you can move a whole
lot more data with a 3G phone. That's a problem I'd like to have.

I also note that the rumor posted here had the 3G iPhone being
tested in "several countries". If the "several countries" include
both the USA and almost anywhere else, and if there is only one
3G iPhone model, then Apple will have done something that most of
their competitors haven't managed. When I was looking the only
phones I found which include 3G support for both the US/AT&T and
for Europe/Asia in the same phone were a couple of HTC phones
which don't do well in reviews.

I want a phone with global 3G support, I only bought the V9 when
I failed to find a phone I could live with with that support. If
Apple does support this I'll seriously think about buying.

I wanted to find out when ATTWS in Charleston, SC, would have 3G running
and play with a few new iPhone toys without spending $400 just to see how
it worked. It worked OK, but the YouTube app ignores the orientation and
stalled a few times on EDGE right in the ATT store from lack of data.

The "Iphone guy" said ATT wouldn't have 3G in Charleston until late Summer
or early Fall, but the 3G iPhone wouldn't be for sale until NEXT YEAR! I
asked him where he got that information because it was different than I had
heard here. He said, "Straight from ATT."

I think the 3G iPhones are going to be HELD UP until MOST of ATT, it's
partner in crime, has the system that will support it.....to prevent or
    reduce the jailbreaking (corporatethink).

    It makes sense.....
