Anyone had recent experrience with porting times when moving from ATT to
Cingular? I'v heard about horror stories, but they were a couple of months
    ago. What's going on now?

    Thanks!

It's still supposed to take 3 1/2 hours, but more often takes closer to
    a week than a day.

I just ported my land line, business line,... to my cell. The last
8 hours were the worst, I have an older Motorola phone
and getting it to confiqure was a real chore. Thankfully the
Cingular tech people were very patient. I am now, for now a happy
camper. Over all it took about a week % 1/2.

    Re: Porting time from ATT?

I did about 3 weeks ago.

What a pain! First let me say - Cingular was great. They did everything
    they could.

After 2 days of being in dual service I started to get pissed. I called the
cingular port number numerous times. They answered in 2 minutes or less
every time! They were always helpful and advised that ATT has still not
released the number for port. I asked them if they had the number for ATTs
    port service.

I called ATT port service. WAITED ON HOLD 75 MINUTES. When they finally
answered, he was able to release them right then on the phone. Called back
Cingular, they did their thing and I was up in the next cycle!

Beware - I got another bill from ATT. They said the request to terminate
service never took. They were able to cancel and back date it, but what a
    pain!

BTW - I filed a complaint with the FCC on ATTs port time. Cingular called
me less than 2 weeks later and asked what happened because they received a
CC. They have been nothing but great! BYE ATT

I ported from ATTWS to Cingular on 2/19 at a Cingular store. It took about a
half hour. The Asst. Store Manager handled it. He had to use a second SIM
because of a problem with the first, but other than that it was painless.

HUH??? Cingular has terrible customer service. Call them about your bill or a
credit or anything else at 1am sometime and see what I mean!
