I called the cingular store (was ATT)I want to get the Moto 551
Cash no plan, no nothing, (I'd like it to be a pay as you go phone)
she said it was $250 I said they are going for $190 on e-bay
I said what kind of warranty does Cingular offer on the phone
    She said none
    I said ???
she said when I'd buy a plan then she could put a warranty on it
I said I wanted it as a pay as you go phone
she said that would be possible and I would then get the standard warranty
on the phone when I started a service with them.
    is this true?
she said all the phones are unlocked and the sim card is $30 extra ( I
know you can get that too on e-bay) then I would get the 1 year warrany
How does a warranty work on a phone that you buy for cash?

The reason I'm asking is I've had 3 Sprint (nokia)phones die while they
were under warranty so I was able to get a new phone. With a GSM phone I
can take it to Europe and put a sim card in from a carrier that is there
and it "should work" you can't do that with a Sprint(nextel) phone.
(also the Sprint contract phones cannot be pay as you go phones, I asked.
The lady at Sprint said that's what Virgin is for)
any info on this would be appreciated.
    TIA

I bought a Cingular 6340I a few years ago my plan was out of contract and I
didn't want to upgrade a month into using the phone it died I took it to a
Cingular store and got it fixed the Tech told me to comeback in a couple of
    days it was fixed
you have at least a one warranty on it thru the manufacture

The "warranty" Cingular offers is an "insurance" package. The
manufacturer warranties the phone for a year. But, if you buy the
phone outright, you have to deal with the manufacturer yourself,
unless a tech at a Cingular store will fix it for you.

(If you buy it on eBay it may be a) new or used and b) reported
missing or stolen. I've also heard of sellers reporting phones stolen
after they were received by the buyers.)

    I don't have anything at a Cingular store - I'm an independent
Cingular agent. But we have techs.

Ohh ok, we don't have techs in the Cingular owned stores in Little Rock.
