How do you remove the ticker or references to it on the desktop of the
V557. My friend is ready to return this phone because she doesn't want
to accidentally hit the "more" button?
Thanks.

Turn the ticker off. It's an option on the Ticker menu.

Isn't there an icon that remains on the desktop? Can it be removed?

If you turn off Live Ticker it doesn't appear on the desktop. The left
softkey is assigned to Ticker by default, but that key can be reassigned.

You can also tell customer service to shut off the internet
connectivity altogether, which I did when I got a 557. The news ticker
still works but you can't view the 'more' pages.
Then I started riding a train to work (2 hours per day) and bought the
$20/month unlimited MediaNet. Along with Opera mini browser, the
utility and entertainment is worth it. Now if only I could get MidpSSH
to work...
