Something to me that is unusual happened this week and it raises a rather
novice question.
I moved to another state and had to have ny number changed. Went to the only
Cingular store in town (very small town) to get a SIM for my V557. They
refused to give the SIM to me and said they had to change it themselves
despite I told them I know how to call Cingular myself.
Well, I found it strange that the guy yanked out the battery and then the
SIM while the phone was on!
He handed me the phone back and it twice powercycled, then prompted me to
power off/on. Since then, my phone is acting strange, occasionally locks up,
misses screen prompts or is very slow, bluetooth doesnt work, etc. This is a
3 month old phone and has been working perfectly beforehand.
Um, shouldnt one shut down the phone before removing the battery and SIM?
Says so in the owners manual.

Re: changing SIM card
I have removed the battery from my phone a thousand times without shutting
down without problems.
Only thing you can do is go complain to the manager.

Re: changing SIM card
A while back there was some issues with the new 64K sims that were
causing some model phones to loose network connection but it didn't
freeze up the phone. Have you tried pulling the battery and leaving it
out for about a minute and then powercycling the phone?

That's weird. Cingular mailed me several SIMS using overnight shipping
and was free. Ok...what really happened was they mailed only one
overnight and billed me for expedited shipping. Remailed the second SIM,
but only the first SIM was resent overnight for free. Finally got them
to mail both SIMS overnight for free and asked them to drop original
expedited shipping charges.

The phone would be off anyway with the battery removed. Although I can
cite no Navaesque required evidence, I can hardly imagine a phone not
being able to tolerate a battery popping out when you drop the phone.

That would be a compelling reason to have a complaint and leave them no
leg to stand on.
