I saw the motokrzr on verizons site and they were advertising a gps mapping
feature with audible alerts but I believe that's only available on Verizon.
Kind of a bummer cause that sounds cool.
Does anyone know of any cingular phones that offer something similar?
Bluetooth is a plus.

Palm offers 2 GPS add-ons for their Treo phones, available on the
Cingular network. One uses bluetooth and the other doesn't. You can
pick them up on their website. I think Palm is the only one though.

Well, I use WayFinder on my Nokia 6682 (a Symbian OS phone).
WayFinder talks to an external Bluetooth GPS unit, and downloads maps and
routes from the WayFinder server (via GPRS). It allows you to store a list of
favorite locations, find locations, map, and route.
I find navigation on the 6682 to be superior to my Palm (a LifeDrive)
because:
1. The 6682 has a voice I can hear (as opposed to Palms which have fairly
anemic speakers).
2. The WayFinder GPS location interpretation seems to be superior to
Mapopolis's on the Palm.
3. The LifeDrive seems to have trouble staying connected to the Bluetooth GPS
unit (probably a buggy bluetooth stack).
OTOH, WayFinder occasionally (rarely) will send you the wrong way down a road
(espcially if GPRS reception is marginal). And the maps you can download and
store in your phone (as opposed to the WayFinder server's maps via GPRS) are
sparse at best.
Also, if you don't have MediaNet (or the equivalent), I'm not sure how the
GPRS costs add up.

Between now and the end of year, there will be more emphasis on 'location
based services (LBS) as new technology is released. Nextel has pretty well
taken the lead, but Cingular is about to start playing catch-up.
For the moment you could consider HP's iPaq with GPS or GPS as an add-on. I
wasted 6 weeks a few months back, trying to make my RAZR V3 display lat/long
from a Bluetooth GPS receiver. Some models of RAZR can do it, the V3 cannot.
The mantra for marketing for the next fiscal quarter is:
Where am I,
Where is it,
How do I get there?
If patient, wait for releases between now and year end. If motivated search
for "cellular GPS".

Re: Phones with GPS/Mapping applications?
Yes, for about $100 you can purchase the Pharos GPS add-on reciever for
bluetooth enabled Windows Mobile SmartPhones.... Have a look here for
more information.
http://www.pharosgps.com/
For Cingular, the Cingular 3125, 2125 SmartPhones and 8125 PDA-Phone
are all compatible.... You can also get a mounting brace for you
reciever and phone for your car and use it for GPS navigation while
driving.

Re: Phones with GPS/Mapping applications?
Thanks all,
JDeats, I've seen that before; I've considered buying it for my notebook to
work with S&T.
