Actually, when I go off to get away from it all, I will turn my cell phone

I have no axe to grind. As I have repeatedly stated, use the service that
works best for you in your area -- there is no one best service.

Navas, with all due respect, I disagree. You support Cingular like a
rabid disciple. I like GSM, too, but I think CDMA would be hard to pass
up if it had a cleaner codec and quality of service standards which would
never again allow carriers to increase capacity at the expense of voice
quality. Or, perhaps some hybrid technology (like the TD-SCDMA) where you
divide the bandwidth both by time and codes. This would allow much higher
throughput per timeslot for data while giving a guaranteed amount of
bandwidth to each timeslice.

What I actually say is:

I've repeatedly stated that the best carrier is the one that works best for
you and your needs in the geographic areas that matter to you. That might
be Cingular; that might be Verizon; or that might be some other carrier.

The most important thing to bear in mind is that quality of coverage
isn't universal and unchanging -- the best carrier in one area won't
be the best carrier in some other area, or at a different point in
time -- so global generalizations aren't terribly meaningful.

There is no one best carrier -- different locations have different
best carriers. I know of buildings where I can get a Cingular signal
but not a Verizon signal, but in and of itself that doesn't mean
Verizon sucks, and vice versa.

phones provide different quality of service. ...
Much depends on where you are, and how you intend to use your phone.
There is no one right carrier (or technology) for all areas, just as
there is no one right phone for all people.
