Hi,
i just bought this phone on a contract with T-Mobile and it seems to be
locked to the T-Mobile network;
why do they lock the phone when i bought it on a contract?
Can it be unlocked?
can i change the software and install support for other languages, my friend
has the same phone on Vodafone and it supports Arabic menus and text. can
this be done?
is there a software program that will do that for me over IR or Bluetooth?
thank you very much in advance

Re: SE-T610 and T-Mobile Question
Because it is on a contract, you cannot use it on another
network..........well you can, but you will need to know someone who has
the expertise.
Here in Oz you can pay approx. $85 to have it unlocked before expiry of
contract, depending on phone model and network operator.
cheers

Assuming this is TMo in the US, I've heard/read that after 90 days, you can
contact them and they will unlock it for you. Or, you can find someone and
pay them to do it for you, or you can get the material you need and try to do
it yourself. You might void your warrantee with TMo if you unlock it in any
way other than through them.

After the phone is unlocked, I believe you can flash different software,
again, once you find the source for it. I'd check out the forums at
www.howardforums.com

I think it requires a special cable. But, again, this is all just from what
I've read. I've no first hand knowledge on any of this.
Good luck
Chad

Because the "contract" is kinda buy now, pay later. You get the phone
cheaper if you promise to pay them monthly for a year.
| Can it be unlocked?
Yes it can. After the contract has expired you can ask them for the
unlock code (which only they know). You can get it unlocked via "other"
means but at around £30 is it really worth it?

I think you can phone SonyEricsson and ask for a firmware flash to get
arabic (english french and german are already there) or chinese, etc,
but as its not covered in warrantee they will charge you for it. As a
side benefit, the phone gets unlocked, heh.

Re: SE-T610 and T-Mobile Question
I don't know about other locations, but in the US T-Mobile does not make you
wait for the contract to end. Officially 90 days into it, but supposedly
they will do it earlier.

Depends where you purchased (I'm assuming you bought from T-M Retail, CS, or
the web).
If you went to CPW for example, you would have got yourself an unlocked
unbranded 610.
