    Hi all,

A friend at work has had a little mishaps with his t610, he accidently spilt
a glass of water over it but managed ot rescue it quickly and has so far
taken out the battery and sim and dried it as much as possible. But there is
some kind of water I think trapped behind the screen.

There doesn't look like any damage has been done but there is just the water
behind the screen that is well not very nice to look at.

Is there someway to get to the screen to dry it or will it dry by itself
    eventually?

As it was just a little water do you think any permanent damage has been
done hes only had it a few weeks.

    Cheers

The best advice given in this NG was to give it to your 18-month-old
    daughter to throw around:

The water will probably evaporate over time (don't use it before that time
ofcourse). But it might leave stains.

As the warranty is void now anyway, you might try opening it up. There are
some sites detailing how to do that for swapping the housing. Maybe look
that up at esato or howardforums.

    Hi There Milan Polle

I read the changing fascias on the esato site and will try it, in the mean
time I lent him my old unlocked nokia 3310

Do you think I should buy the t6 torx screw driver and try it and see if I
can get to the screen by undoing all for screws? as it the water\shadow
seems to be wedged in between the screen (that's how it looks) other than
that it looks to be functioning ok.

Is there much point now that the water seems to be drying out? is it to late
do you think the damage has been done.

As far as I can tell the earpiece is working again, but there is still the
shadow of water stain on the display.

He rung the retailer he bought it form and as we both thought they said no
chance in hell they could not replace it unfortunately, was worth a shot.

    Cheers.

Stick in the airing cupboard, somewhere warm and dry.

Don't bother buying the torx drivers, it's easy easy to open them using an
appropriately sized flat blade screwdriver and pressing down fairly firmly.
Mine got soaked ( in the toilet - don't ask!) and I opened it up and left it
to dry for 2-3 days and it worked fine when I put it back together

DO buy a Torx T6 driver! A flat blade can easily slip or damage the screw
heads. T6 drivers are cheap enough (£2-£3 tops), and if you still need
dismantle instructions, take a look at the UselessInfo site in my sig.

    Appreciate all the replies,

I have popped out this morning to maplin picked up a t6 torx screwdriver for
a few quid was one round the corner but as it happened yesterday there was
no sign of water so just gave it a wipe anyway and left it to dry. Before
doing that I had a quick look to see if that water mark was still on the
screen and it has gotten a lot smaller so heres hoping its will be sorted by
monday and hopefully there won't have been any permanent damage.

I passed on your messages to the chap and he passes on his thanks and is
quite relived that his phone is not looking like his new paper weight. I did
recommend the phone to him and felt somewhat guilty when he told me what
happened hence me trying ot sort it out. But it looks like its going to be
    ok :-)

Right just to clarify will the water have done any damage even though all is
working fine? don't want him to wake up one morning to a black screen.

    Cheers

The honest answer is....no-one knows. He may get lucky and it may continue
to function into the forseeable future. Alterntively, it may give up the
    ghost at any time.

Ideally, the phone should be dismantled and the main board cleaned in an
ultrasonic bath, but even then there's no guarantee. As for the screen, if
it's water damaged, there's no real alternative other than to replace it.

Yes, I've heard that as well. Apparently any salts that might have been in
the water could corrode the PCB traces over time.

Though I once had a digital watch which I lost in the snow in the garden. I
didn't find it until the springtime, opened it up, let it dry near a
radiator and it worked flawlessly after that.

Chances are it will work fine until the time he would want to move on to
    another phone.

It seems far more likely [to me] that the deposited salts do no damage till
they are able to attract moisture in a wet air environment.

Then they could cause [intermittent?] signal leakage across pcb-lines and
    later corrosion with permanent damage.

    So keep the thing dry!
