My uncle gave me his spare mobile phone before he went overseas but even
though it worked perfectly for him when I put my SIM in it says it is
"Phone Locked, Enter Code"
My brother tells me it is "SIM locked" and I have to find somebody to
unlock it.
I guess its an old phone now (Ericsson R380 World).
Does anybody know how to do this?
Would really appreciate any help (post or email).
thanks heaps in advance.

Call your uncle and get the code

Re: I can't use my phone :-(
Try 0000 as pin code.
I don't think it is a SIM lock. It looks like it is the phone code which has
to be entered when SIM is changed, to make life hard for thiefs.
0000 is the standard code for Ericsson phones (see User Guide on SE
website).
If that doesn't work, you have to contact the previous owner.

We did that of course silly.
He doesn't know of any code. He has never needed one.

Re: I can't use my phone :-(
i think you can enter the code a few times and lock the sim - call the
provider of the sim and get the PUK number - enter this and then enter a new
pin for the sim
possibly :\

If it says "Phone Locked" as the OP states, then I do not think it is the
PIN code for the SIM that is needed...

Locate a good *independent* mobile-phone dealer. They should be able to
unlock your phone while you wait for a small fee.

Does the left ** left submenu work on the R380?
(yes it does as I have just done it) see if you can unblock it that way,
you should get network, network subset, service provider and corporate
locks, maybe these are locked and can be toggled off
I have the same on a a2628s and tried to use a USB cable to reset it,
however I have now bought a serial cable and got some free soft from
unlock.net
Those cheap cables on eBay for the later models will work on all similar
Ericsson's, the P800 cable works equally well with my R380 as it does with
the other models I have.
If you want to unlock though, it has to be a serial cable although I haven't
seen nlockers for 380's on most sites
Jethro done a tool for such a thing though, google that or look on some of
the GSM forums

Now all we need is find out what the latest available firmware is (for
phone and PDA function) and how to upgrade it (Ericsson R380 World)
