After several calls trying to sort out why Sony Ericsson's Phone
Monitor control panel could no longer detect my T610, I finally got the
full answer from Sony Ericsson (Thanks, "Jason") that Sony Ericsson has
no intention of providing a new version of the Communications Suite
that will support Windows XP SP2.

SP1, fine. But as soon as SP2 is reinstalled, I can no longer get XTND
PC to talk to the phone.

I've tried Mobile Master, but it's incredibly clunky and slow.

Anyone have any other solution for syncing a T610 with Lotus Notes 6
via Bluetooth? I only need the contacts and calendar information.

I have no problems with syncing under SP2, with XTNDConnect.
There are 2 things you need to be aware of:
    1) Don't use the SE drivers but use the native Win XP BT drivers.
    2) Make sure that you activate the correct COM port in XTND
(you can see which one is used by BT in the device manager of Windows)
    Otherwise you won't see diddly!
    That's it

    Best regards

How do you install the Phone Monitor or Communications Suite under SP2?
I've been unable to get the installer to actually finish. I get to the
"Removing temp files..." and the installer never quits. "ikernel.exe"
remains resident on the machine, and the Phone Monitor *never* detects
    the phone again.

I don't understand what you mean by "SE drivers" and "native WIN XP BT
drivers. I have a D-Link BT dongle, and I'm using it with its drivers,
and it happily sees the phone, allows me to browse the phone's files,
    etc.

In any case, I need a way to sync Lotus Notes' calendar to the T610's
calendar, or I need a new phone.

Rest assured that if I have to buy a new phone, it will not be a Sony
    Ericsson.

First of all de-install ALL SE s/w incl drivers.
Also remove bluetooth devices from the phone manager.
Reboot the PC and let the bluetooth device be re-discovered.
Pair the phone, with the PC, via the Control Panel.
Then install ONLY EXTNDConnect and nothing else.
First time XTND starts up it will not connect because the correct COM port
is not enabled. Enable the correct COM port (see which port is the BT
device in the Device Manager of Windows). At the same time, tick off "the
    reserve this port" thingie.
    And now IT WILL WORK.
You can stil drag-and-drop stuff to-and-from your phone via the File Manager
and the special Phone File Manager of Windows.
    Good Luck

I haven't been able to do this ever since the initial install failed.
The Communication Suite shows up in the "Add/Remove Software" control
panel, but any attempt to remove it hangs at the "removing temporary
    files" notice.

The SE Phone Monitor, or the D-Link Bluetooth stuff? And how do I
install ONLY the XTNDConnect when it's built into the Communications
    Suite 1.1.1 installer?

    > First time XTND starts up it will not connect because the correct COM port

I'd beg to differ. I've been wrestling with this thing for three days
now, and 1) the installer for Comm Suite 1.1.1 has never successfully
completed as long as Service Pack 2 was in place, 2) I can not
successfully UNinstall Comm Suite 1.1.1 because the installer hangs
after clearing the temp files, but leaves ikernel.exe resident. Any
further attempts to UNinstall Comm Suite 1.1.1 also fail in the same
    fashion.

I originally bought the T610 because it was supposed to be able to sync
with Lotus Notes via XTNDConnect PC (and, yes, I paid extra for the
    version that supported Lotus Notes).

Now that I'm on XP SP2, Sony Ericsson themselves tell me I need to back
out Service Pack 2 (not an option) or buy a new phone from them that
supports XP SP2 (Also not an option - if I buy a new phone because of
this mess, it will NOT be a Sony Ericsson.)

    <snip a load of troubles>

It's stories like this that make me so glad I'm a Mac user - I've had no
trouble linking my T610, V600, Z1010, V800 and Z800 to my Mac. ditto
friends' Nokias, motorolas etc. No need to install software, no need to
disable or enable ports (except to link the phone via Bluetooth).

Syncing with contacts, connecting to the internet, transferring data
files, even controlling the Mac from the phone. It just works without
    problems.

    Easy!

I know. I use the T610 to sync to my G5 at home, and a Windows box at
the office. The Windows box was recently swapped from a Win2K machine
to XP SP2, and now the Sony Ericsson software can't be installed or
    uninstalled.

Why does an installer package need to make a Remote Procedure Call,
anyway? InstallShield does that, and I have no idea why.

i have to agree, on a Mac it is so painless it is wonderful

with WIN2K i get duplicates. do you have a similar problem or are my settings
    off?

I assume that you have administration rights to actually install and remove
programs? At my worl they have locked the PC's so that it isimpossible (well
    nearly) to install software.

Easy. The calendar gets synced with the laptop, and the contacts synced
    with the Mac.

    No duplicates.

Yes. The Nokia 6600 PC Suite installed and synced flawlessly, and the
T610 is stuffed in a drawer awaiting use as a "second number" cellular
when she needs it next year.

It's too bad Sony Ericsson either doesn't care about their customers,
or doesn't have anyone capable of writing software that works under XP
    SP2.

They're either ignorant or apathetic, neither of which I find to be
attractive attributes in a consumer electronics manufacturer.

    Re: Sony Ericsson Abandons Users

I am also using Xtndconnect PC with Bluetooth to synchronize my T637 with my
Outlook contacts and calendar. My laptop is running Windows XP SP2. It took
me awhile to get this to work. It worked fine with IR, but I just couldn't
get Xtndconnect PC to see the T637 via the Bluetooth connection.

The missing piece of information, as Jan alludes to, is activating the
correct COM port. My Bluetooth connection happened to configure itself for
COM40. But the COM port setting is NOT in Xtendconnect PC. (The configure
button on the Translator tab of my free version of Xtendconnect PC is
    disabled).

In addition to installing Xtndconnect PC, you must install the "Sony
Communications Suite". Unfortunately, during the install process, there is
no configuration wizard or hint of what to do to configure the COM port.
Magically, you just know to go to Control Panel/Phone Monitor Options, and
Enable and Reserve the correct COM port (COM40 in my case) on the COM Ports
    tab.

By the way, I installed floAt's Mobile Agent (http://fma.sourceforge.net).
This software is really cool. You can explore and manage all the phone
content and controls from Windows. (And vice versa, actually). The most
interesting application I heard about is using the mobile phone as a remote
control for your laptop when your laptop is playing music or other media in
    your home theater. Neat!

    Hi,

I'm also having problems installing the Sony Ericsson software on a
    brand new laptop..

    I also get:

    >>I've been unable to get the installer to actually finish. I get to the

"Removing temp files..." and the installer never quits. "ikernel.exe"

Have done factory recovery on and ACER 4600 just to see if any other
new software that I had just installed was interffering..tried to
    install again...still not working..
Laptop comes with Windows XP SP2 as standard these days, not really a
    surprise..
So uninstalling XP SP2 isn't an option..

Has anyone got any clues as what to try next ?

You're in exactly the same position I was a few weeks ago.

Per recommendation from Sony Ericsson, I replaced my phone with a newer
model. (They were saying that they couldn't support the T616 or T610
under XP SP2, despite the fact that the phone was still shipping almost
a year after SP2 rolled out...)

Of course, I replaced it with a Nokia, not a Sony Ericsson. Why would I
throw more money at a company that gave me the shaft once already?

    Two things immediately impressed me:

    1) I had no problems installing the Nokia PC Suite software under XP
    SP2.

    2) The Nokia PC Suite syncs with Lotus Notes out-of-the-box, and
requires no third-party adapter software to do that.

    Hope this helps.
