Hi,
I have upgraded my Laptop OS to XP and I am having ttrouble getting my
bluetooth connection to work to my T39.
I have a 3Com PC card, that all seems to be working just fine. I can pair
the devices ok. Just that connection manager wont pick up the phone
connections. I cannot see any com ports...

Many people today live under democratic governments, and those who don't,
probably want to. Democracy is an answer to the question of how to create
leaders, while preventing them from abusing that power. It achieves this
by giving the population the power to regulate their government through
voting, yet the ability to vote does not necessarily mean that you live
in a democratic country. For a population to regulate their government
effectively it must know what their government is doing, they must be well
informed. It is a feedback loop, but this loop can be broken if the
government has the power to control the information the population has

Re: anyone have any tips for connecting a T39 [via bluetooth] on XP
I don't know if your laptop has bluetooth. Anyway, I saw today at
MicroCenter a bluetooth usb adapter, the size of a key. That accepts
bluetooth signals from t68i,which makes communications between pc and t68i
possible. I have infrared on my laptop. Since t68i has infrared port, I
tried to let them talk but not successful. I can let my pda talk with my
cell phone. But I don't know how I can make my cell phone talk with my
laptop with infra red. It doesn't seem the communication center helps.

You might have to do a manual connection first, then disconnect and use the
software to connect. This way you'll "instruct" the Bluetooth software"
which com port to use.
Have a look in guides...

I can only tell you that I had the same problem with T39 via USB
data cable. The solution: For an unknown reason XP decided to use
COM5 port instead of COM1 - but since we've discovered that (and
redefined the asettings), everything's OK.

With all due respect, the problem isn't XP, but poorly-written phone software
that's unable to find the COM port on its own.

Sorry, but it's exactly the same phone SW that had no problems when
dealing with Win98SE. So my uneducated guess was that it's the OS,
not the phone SW.

That's just because Win98SE happens to install the port that the software is
looking for. Writing software that depends on undocumented and/or empirical
observation is contrary to the development guidelines and is considered bad
practice.

Have you enabled the IrDA port on the laptop through the BIOS? Sometimes
this is disabled.
