Which cable kit should i get to interface with the V551?
I see a data pilot and a motorola one on ebay.
    Any advantages to either?
I found the interface of this phone quite inferior to my nokia.
I am stuck with it so i am hoping a pc link will perhaps assist?
I would probably be happy just to get a NORMAL ringtone.
Ok, if I could keep it from displaying the simcard names along with the phone names i would be more content.
I'll shut up now. Anybody care to chime in please?

Motorola Phone Tools is the better bet on the software.

Unless of course you want to sync with any Palm device... too bad they
    don't support TrueSync anymore

Thanks very much indeed. I dont wish to do too much i suppose.
But i want a NORMAL ringtone, and ability to save my contacts
since i cant seem to stop it from showing the sim card and phone contacts at
    the same time.
    Thanks again.
Uh, care to elaborate on what "other" things can be done to the phone?
I mean, it's kinda justa phone, right?

Try assigning your sim card contacts one category and your phone
contacts another. That way, you can just have the category you want
to be displayed. Downside is, you won't be able to separate between
family, friends, work, etc . You'll only have two different contacts
types. But it solves your memory/sim problem.

How do you get the differenct categories to hold when the phone is powered
down. Turn off the power and turn it back on and the SIM card names come
    back.

i have one of these USB data kits from EBAY and it doesnot work. MPT says
that you must use an original OEM motorola cable which costs about 35.00
incl shipping. the cable charges the battery ok but does not connect w
computer properly--spent some time w BPRV tech support trying to get
connected, they sent me new software and everything. any ideas?? thanks

Sounds like you got a bum cable maybe then, order another. I have used and
sold quite a few of the ebay cables and never had any trouble with them. I
    got the ones from eforcity.

here in nashville you can get the complete cable and software kit from the
T-mobile store ,i bought it for $39 it works for other software too
so if you have any problems you can just take it back.
it works for the v600 and v551 programmed my phone and my sisters
