We recently upgraded to a different cellphone..same provider...and our 2 yr
old Motorola V60T is unused. From what the cellphone dealer informed us
today, the older V60T cellphones are being phased out for newer technology.
What to do with the old cellphone? If we sell it, what assurances would we
have that our existing cellphone number would not be hacked from the older
    V60T?

There's no risk if the ESN (Electronic Serial Number) has been deleted from
    your account.

Donate the old phone to a charitable organization and take a tax writeoff.
Reputable ones will ensure that the phone isn't hacked or cloned.
