Nextel Direct Connect vs. Verizon Push to Talk

I have had Nextel for sometime now, but I am curious how the Verizon Push to
Talk compares. I have heard someone say that it takes longer to connect on
the Verizon network than Nextel. Is that true? Also, has Verizon added any
features that Nextel doesn't have. Also, according to the Verizon web-page,
their is only one phone available with this capability. I am not looking to
switch, but I am just curious.

if you want to look at another source for push to talk look at spring, wide
variety of phones and the service is just as fast, tested it out myself the
other day.

Verizon is slower in the initial connection (up to 10 seconds) and has
a voice latency of up to 3 to 4 seconds. Verizon isn't pushing the
technology cause they they know it isn't working as well as NEXTEL's
subsecond setup and almost zero latency. (NEXTEL's system is also
based on the same PTT technology that is used on public safety trunked
radio systems)

Now they are supposed to fix some of the issues with their new data
service, but they already have a black eye and Sprints PTT even works
better.

all I know is that in the metro DC area, it's become quite common for
our PTT sessions to be disconnected, lost, unavailable or suffer long
latency times between send/receive. I have no idea what's causing
this except that maybe too many people switched over to Nextel during
the start of number portability and Nextels network can't handle the
load.
