My company is thinking about going with Nextel, for the walkie talkie
functionality. Question is, looking at their map of Missouri, it
looks like their coverage is basically just the major cities and major
highways. Get a few miles off the major interstate highways and it
looks to be a no zone. Could someone who has their service, tell me
if their map is current? I don't want to ask Nextel, as I'll probably
get the "company line" that towers are added bla bla bla.
I need to know how well it works not so much in the sticks, but
close to the sticks.....so to speak.

    Thanks!

    Re: walkie talkie question

Nextel tends not to cover rual areas very well. In fact, covering
only 'major' population areas and ground transportation routes is a
key part of their business plan.

That said, if it looks like their coverage map does not extend to
areas you need to go it is safe to assume you will NOT get coverage
there. You would be very wise to find a friend/co-worked with Nextel
and take a drive with their phone to verify coverage before you buy.

Nextel is GREAT if you live and work in a coverage area but for some
folks it is not the right choice given their limited coverage and lack
    of roaming.
