My sister-in-law purchased 4 phones with PTT for her family (she was an
existing verizon user). I am a nextel user and I tried to get her to change
to nextel since it has proven good performance in eastern Massachusetts.
She brought the v60p's over my house to show me the phones. She could not
get the PTT to work with the phones in the same room. Once she was home in
her house she still had trouble. She brought them all back the next day and
reactivated her prior phones. She now plans to switch to Nextel in a week
    or two.

My impression is that VZW's PTT works about as well as Nextel's regular
phone service does most everywhere else (for the sarcasm impaired, that
means not very well). But what's your point anyways? You could have just
bought a cell with a speaker phone if you wanted to share your calls with
(and annoy) everyone else around you, and it would have worked in a lot more
    places too.

For many business situations, NexTel may very well make sense (I've used
under those circumstances myself). But any consumer who buys it without a
buiness need is an idiot in my book. "Oooh. It beeps every time I press the
button! Then I just talk really loud!"

How did the blackout affect the people?

Fact: Verizon towers overloaded almost immediately and had network
congestion for 4 hours after the power went out. Switches and trunks
were fine, as were about 95-98% of the towers throughout the whole
ordeal. people were able to use their phones after the initial rush
and in no sense was the network ever comprimised during the situation.
This was reported on many boards and by some newspapers.

Fact: Nextel PTT worked great during the first 5 minutes or so of the
blackout and then subsequently started dropping as much as 95% of PTT
calls soon thereafter. Towers started going offline as little as 4
hours into the ordeal. People on the nextel forums on boards (hofo and
wa) were reporting that Nextel PTT and service wasn't restored in some
areas until 3 days after power was restored.

I'm not advocating one over the other, but please get your facts
    straight

The guy on TV is still talking to himself, with no answer. The
only time my Nextel DC acts like that ad is when I'm WAY out in the
woods at the edge of the Parish. Deep in the country where you start
to hear banjo music playing in the background...
