( BW)(VA-NEXTEL)(NXTL) Nextel Pioneers Electronic Distribution of Monthly
Bills; New Billing Methods are a First for a Top-Tier Wireless Carrier;
Nextel Provides Customers with Choices
Business Editors/High-Tech Writers
RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 1, 2003--Nextel Communications Inc.
(NASDAQ:NXTL) today announced the availability of two new convenient methods
for Nextel customers to receive their entire monthly bill through an e-mail
attachment or by fax at no additional cost. In addition to being able to
access invoices on www.nextel.com, the Electronic Invoice Delivery options
will enable Nextel customers to get things done quickly and easily with
automatic printing via fax or click-and-print via the e-mail attachment.
"Nextel's award-winning commitment to customers continues with the
addition of these billing options," said Dick LeFave, senior vice president
and chief information officer for Nextel. "We're focused on providing the
best customer care through strategic investments in our people, our network
and back office systems."
Nextel customers with five or less wireless phones wishing to receive
their bill through e-mail or fax can visit http://www.nextel.com/mynextel/
to set up their preferred billing option. "Once we completed our billing
systems conversion last year, we turned our attention to facilitating the
fax and e-mail functionality," added LeFave. Earlier this year, the company
enabled customers to access their invoices and call detail as well as
up-to-date cellular and Nextel Direct Connect(TM) walkie-talkie usage, at no
additional charge via the Web.

What a joke.....their idea of customer service is reminisant of the old
Soviet Union.

Yeah- I hate it when a company lets me see call detail, emails by bill to me
and minutes used and then doesn't charge me for it. And then they have the
audacity to answer my call in less than a minute most times when I call
them. Oh yeah- this is good stuff, isn't it?

Oh- do yourself a favor. Take a look at the other alt.cellular newsgroups-
you'll find numerous threads on each group bemoaning the state of that
particular carrier's Customer Service, and the stories are pretty horrible.
A quick glance of this group shows a complete lack of these threads,
although I'm sure this mention of it will open the floodgates.

It's good to live in a little perfect world. I hope you never have problems
with them because they basically do not care one bit about you. I have been
with them for six years and will soon port over to probably verizon. If you
open your eyes you will see complaints about Nextel all over the internet.

Re: New Billing Options
I chose NEXTEL precisely because comments about their customer service
seemed to be very hard to find, which meant they were probably doing
something right. I have to say its very easy to get things done when I call
NEXTEL Customer Service, very short hold times, and they do what they say
they will do, very quickly. Quite a change from Alltel or Sprint. With
good Customer Service, it makes the fact that I am paying slightly more now
seem worth it (although I have a MUCH better rate plan than I did with
Alltel, with the free Incoming 400, NEXTEL loses on me ever month because
most of my calls are inbound). Overall I am very happy.

Well, good luck with Verizon. BTW- you might want to hop over to
alt.cellular.verizon. There are a couple of pretty lengthy, recent threads
talking about how Verizon Customer Care seems to be pretty bad over the last
couple of months. I just looked (with open eyes)- I don't see anything like
that here.
