Before I start to looking to writing / having written are there any existing
services available to Sync' my Calendar and Contacts from my phone to a
server?

The quote below has been taken from page 119 of the User Manual.

Synchronising from your phone to a remote server
Before synchronising from your compatible phone, you may need to do the
following:
.. Subscribe to a synchronisation service. For more information on
availability
and the synchronisation service settings, contact your network operator or
service provider.
