I have been using a 6310i for awhile now but want to upgrade, mainly since
my phone is looking tattered, although it still works.

The only thing holding me back from upgrading is that there doesn't seem to
be an upgrade path from the 6310i, which is basically a no frills business
phone. (BT and Tri-Band are a must) I really don't want one with a huge
screen like the 3650 or 6600 or a "Transformers" inspired 6820. The 8910i is
stupidly expensive for what it is and all the other slim phones, don't have
    bluetooth. AARRRGGGHH!!!!

There isn't really an upgrade available, whatever you choose you must also
replace your carkit since there are no Cark91 supporting Nokia's anymore....

This is becoming clear now. I'm not too worried about the carkit as I'll go
for a BT kit, so any future phone should work.

The only replacement as far as I can see is the 6230. Hopefully it'll
    surface soon.

Another 6310i..? They are still available, although probably not for long.
Alternatively, if the only problem is that it's getting tatty, replacement
covers can be had for a tenner or so and are easy enough to fit.

I'd go for the Nokia 6230 which has several advantages compared to 6310i:

+ EGPRS is faster than regular GPRS
    + FM radio
    + MMC slot
+ a bit lighter and small, but not too much
    + AAC/MP3 player

On the other side the 6230 has a 65k colour TFT screen and other features
that use more battery, so you probably won't experience as good talk and
stand-by times as with the 6310i.
