Can anyone please tell me why my received texts come up as number only and
not the persons name who has sent it, even though they are in my contacts.
Also, when turning the phone on it doesn't complete the tone when the hands
meet, it cuts off halfway, any ideas please!

    TIA

As for your 1st question, there could be 2 reasons. Either there is a
duplicate number of the sender in your handphone or there could be a spacing
after the contact number. You gotta check.

For the 2nd question, there could be a few reason. Do you have any third
party software that kicks-in (autoexec) once you restart your phone? One way
to check whether the software (that is effecting the startup tone) is from
your phone memory or MMC card is to remove the card and restart the phone
    without the MMC card.

    Cheers.

Check that you don't have those names and numbers several times in your
address book, for example "John Smith" and "Smith John".

You got a superfast model? I'm sorry, I can't help with that one.

The number is phrased a bit differently. Add the number sent
with the message to your contact entry for that person and
delete the original phone number. There'll probably be a
difference -- perhaps a space in the middle or one number will
be in the international form (plus sign at the beginning).

Mine sometimes does that. But it just seems to be a cosmetic
problem: the phone still works properly.

as above, check that you don't have the numbers stored in both the handset
and the sim card (the 6600 doesn't know how to differentiate between storage
i was told by orange) and secondly if you're in the uk you need to make sure
the numbers are stored in your sim card (or phone!) with the prefix '+44'
    instead of '0'

Thats not correct. None of my numbers are stored with +44 (country code)
and the contacts display works fine. All my phones have been Nokia on
various networks and I've never had to do this. I don't know where you got
that information. +44 is simply a country code the phone needs to dial
instead of 0 when your outside the UK and dialing into the UK.

Not being funny Carl, but on changing the numbers to the +44 prefix it now
    has solved the problem!

    Thanks all for your help!

a network thing? I.ve never come across this before hence my previous post.
I was clearly wrong. Glad you got yout probs sorted Gazza.

no problem - it was the fix for when i had exactly the same problem. i'm on
orange and don't know if that could be the difference - maybe subtly
    different firmware versions?
