I had a GSM phone in Nokia, that according to the specs worked on the 800
GSM band, where I understand Rogers in Canada works on the 850 and 1900 GSM,
any suggestins for a Nokia model that will work in the 850 and 1900 band?

The "REAL" name of the frequency band of operation is the 800MHz band. For some
reason someone along the way decided to call it the 850MHz band. It is the same
frequency band regardless of what you call it.

From what I've read 800 and 850 GSM are one and the same, people just round
off the numbers differently to make it sound good.

The official term is GSM850, as detailed in the GSM specs. It used to
be GSM800; can't figure why they bothered changing it, particularly as
I agree it is generally known as the 800 band in DAMPS terms.

Not sure what current Nokia phones support 850 & 1900; but it seems
most of the new ones will i.e. 6620, 6230, 6010 and 5140 for starters.

I have a Nokia 6340i and it works on everything. Here are the specs: GSM
850/1900 Mhz, TDMA 800/1900 Mhz, AMPS 800 Mhz.

I believe this phone is only available from Cingular.
