My single dead pixel on my 3 month old 6600 is so annoying, because it's
more obvious when you know it exists Are dead pixels common, and will
    Nokia do anything?

i bought a 6600 a few months back which after a month had 3 dead
pixels, i got the phone repaired under warranry for free (they
replaced the screen). i now just have one dead pixel.

dead pixels are quite common on tft screens, my ipaq organizer has a
dead one, my pc monitor has one and a mates 6600 has one!

    Not 'common' - but acceptable!

    You'll notice a small percentage of TFT screens actually have dead-pixels;
if they did they'd hardly sell many would they? They're irritating to most
people, it displays some 'imperfection', as such, in the manufacturer.

Unfortunately some dead pixels are inherent to the manufacturing process
of TFT screens. STN (passive) panels do not have this problem.
Manufacturers could release *perfect* screens only, but this would put
    costs up dramatically.

Funny thing, it's only Nokia 6600 owners who seem to have a problem
with it, judging by their posts to the newsgroups. And not Nokia 3650s,
Communicators, SE t630s, or whatever handsets which are equipped with TFT
    screens.

I bought mine from o2 online, and don't want to ring the 50p/minute
helpline! Would I need to, or could I take it straight to Nokia?

i've seen a few tft monitors with 'no dead pixels guaranteed' but as
    you say they are pricey!

Contact O2 using the website, and they will either tell you to go to nokia, or your nearest O2 store.
