"Tri-band coverage on up to five continents (GSM 900/1800/1900 or GSM
850/1800/1900 in the Americas)
Automatic switching between bands"
Bit vague.

Does this mean the phone is available in two versions (not stated on web
page as far as I could see), or if in Americas can pick up GSM850 and/or
1900; if elsewhere can pickup GSM 900 and/or 1800? (which would be ideal).
I suppose this could be possible by the chip recognising the carrier
frequency?

I don't have a solution, but I do admire the problem.
