I've recently upgraded from 6310i to the 6680 and I found two
disappointments:
1. There is no automatic keypad lock. This is found in all the new
non-Symbian Nokias (e.g. 6100) and I can't understand why they didn't
do it here.
2. On the 6310i (and newer) there was a neat feature where you change
to a profile with a timer, so after the set time the phone reverts to
the original profile. Really useful when you're in a meeting, or when
you take a nap for 2 hours. Again, 6680 does not have it.
Hopefully Nokia is listening and will fix it in the next firmware
upgrade.
Or, alternatively, someone will write a Symbian app that can do these
two things...

Fair points.
There is third party software available that can help ease your troubles.
If you find a decent keylocker let me know )
If you get stuck also let me know.

Two other things I have found a little disappointing with the Nokia 6680
is:
1. Only 10MB of internal memory, some of the Motorola phones have 32MB,
and
2. The use of RS-MMC rather than a normal MMC, more expensive and only
this week I have seen a couple of 1G RS-MMC hit eBay.

Make sure it's DV RS MMC!
I am not aware of 1Gb of this being available just yet. The release date
seems to be set back each time.

Re: Nokia 6680 - two disappointments
These settings don't exist on my 6680 (on orange). Are there different
versions ? I've also seen reference to standby settings that my phone
doesn't have in the menus

According to the manual, the 'autolock' locks the phone and you need
to unlock it with a security code. This is against theft and
unauthorized use. This is not what I meant. What I mean is just to
lock the keypad against accidental press of the keys (like you
manulally do with 'Menu *' in the non-Symbian phone). As I said in my
original post, this feature exists in the phones that were released in
the last 2 years or so, such as the 6100.
As far as I can tell, this feature does NOT exist in the 6680.
However, there are commercial Symbian application that do that.
Here is one that lists for 5 USD:

A quick Google search will find more.

On my non Orange 6680 pressing the left side menu key ( which defaults
to "messaging") & " * " locks the keypad in the normal way.

Manual locking is available on ALL Nokia phones. The trick is a
time-based locking - after x seconds/minutes of inactivity, keypad
locks. Windows has it, Nokia 6100 has it but bleeding-edge users of
6680 have to pay for a 3rd-party application to do what is free on
other Nokia phones.
Again, I hope the Nokia people monitor this newsgroup and will
understand that this kind of behavior pissed people off.

Re: Nokia 6680 - two disappointments
You can lock the 6680 keypad ...
press the key that normally shows "messag" above it and then the * key.
Works for me.
Firmware here is V 2.04.15 04-03-05 which was loaded by Nokia service
centre. Originally had the Vodafone firmware which was pants!
