Hi All,
Is there anyway to change the order in which names appear in the
contacts ?
Currently my contacts are listed in the order: lastname firstname.
Is there anyway to change this to: firstname lastname ?
I know of two workarounds, one is to write the entire name into the
firstname field. And the other is to swap the firstname with the
lastname. But these are just hacks - is there a way to do this on nokia
phones without one of these hacks ?

It is a standard option on the Nokia 6680, if it isn't on your phone
then maybe a later firmware revision will offer it for you.

Is it a standard option on he 6680 for messages also - I can't find it.
I managed to find the option to change the phone book names to first first
and last last but not for messages.

You are right there, but the original post only referred to contacts and
not messages.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Do you know where I can find the latest firmware release for a Nokia
6670 ?
I googled around for a while, but couldn't find anything that looked
legit.
Thanks

The only way to upgrade the firmware on a Nokia phone is at a Nokia Care
Centre, if your phone is still under warranty then it should not cost
anything.

Re: Lastname, Firstname order on Nokia 6670
I have a 6670 and it has the option in it.
Go to your phone directory and select on options.
In the menu that pops up, select on settings. There should only be on field,
and this field is for you to sort your phone direcctory.

When I select 'Options' a menu pops up. But in the menu there is no
'Settings'.
Maybe my firmware is older than yours. Do you know what firmware your
phone is running ? You can find out by pressing *#0000# on the phone.
My firmware version is 5.0509.0ch 01/03/05 RH-67.

Re: Lastname, Firstname order on Nokia 6670
Ok, I did some more research into this.
My firmware version is 5.0509.0ch 01/03/05 RH-67, which means that my
phone supports English and Chineese - I think thats what the 'ch'
suffix means.
Further it seems like phones with firmware that supports Chineese are
missing certain features - probably because of on-board memory
limitations. One of the features that are missing is support for
changing the sort order in the contacts. Brilliant.
Now, someone on this alias mentioned that I need to go to a Nokia Care
Centre to change the firmware. Does anyone know what where I can find
one of these things in the US ? I have never heard of a Nokia Care
Centre - all we have is stores run by the wireless providers - and they
probably have their own firmware versions - or so I would think.
Cheers
