Is it any good?
Does it have any use?
Does it save me money.
Can it be used in the UK?
Should I just get some £20 Walkie Talkies?
Thanks

Reportedly it IS good.
Use can be made of your phone, to act like a walkie talkie.
Save you money???? I "believe" so, if you wish to be in "constant" contact
with other parties.
It can I believe be used in the UK, but only on Orange, at the moment.
(Search their web site for further information).
You could just buy some 20£ walkie talkies, and they will give you a range
of about 5kms.
With PTT (on a mobile network), it is used over GPRS (I believe), and you
can effectively speak with anyone in the UK (that has the same
functionality), which can be "just a tad" further than 5kms :-)

Orange have labelled their service "Talk Now"
Hope that helps.

If you're both on top of a hill (preferably the same one..!) then yes. In
a city centre, you'll be lucky to get a quarter of a mile.

But unlike a walkie talkie, it's not free..!
If you hold a radio amateur licence though there are other options, such
as repeater systems on VHF and UHF, but both parties need to hold a
licence and just about anybody can listen in, so it isn't private.
Some repeaters are linked to this system - www.echolink.org - I spoke on a
VHF hand-portable to a truck driver in Australia a few weeks ago..!
