My new company gave me a phone, so I will switch off the contract on
the old phone. But I never spent the $50 (£30) that Nokia want for
the data cable that connects to a PC. I don't have an infrared port on
the laptop or PC. So I could mail them to my new Nokia 6230i, I could
buy a cable or i could buy an IR card for the laptop and try and
transfer that way. NOte that the cable for the 5140 won't work for the
6230i, and vice versa.
Any smart ideas?

Is 5140 able to send photos directly to the 6230i? I know 6230i can send and
receive. If the direct connection works, that would cost £0, if you only
have one SIM card, you may need to borrow one to be able to use both at the
same time (don't remember if 6230i can be used in off-line mode without a
SIM card).

Sending from 5140 to 6230 directly? Now there's an idea ... They both
have IR ports - not sure the phones can talk to each other but will try
it out - great idea! Thanks

Hello!
You can try Bluetooth connection for Nokia 6230i ( sometimes it is cheaper,
than original DKU-2 or CA-53 cables and the most of modern laptops have
inbuilt bluetooth transceiver) and ProLific PL-2303 POP-port-to-F-Bus cable
for Nokia 5140i . Oxygen Phone Manager II ( http://www.opm-2.com/opm2/ ) and
Oxygen Express ( http://www.oxygen-express.com/ ) support the both
connection configurations.
You can download the latest Oxygen Phone Manager II free trial version here:

The latest Oxygen Express trial is available here:

Re: cheapest way to transfer 10 photos from a 5140 to a PC?
I was able to get the 5140 to transmit but I was not able to get the
6230 to receive. Any idea how to do that? Paging thru the menus I
couldn't figure it out ... thanks

Hi, seems like 5140 only supports IR, no BT. Did you activate IR from the
receiving 6230 first?
Tried from my N-series phone to another 6230i, first activated IR from
"menu, settings, connectivity, infrared", then sent a photo from my phone
and it works (as it should of course). Direct IR ports properly so that they
can "see" each other.
If it still doesn't work, perhaps you should try sending to a different
phone (or find a laptop with IR to be used "in-between"), although I don't
see why it would help, it should work directly from the 5140 to the 6230i.
