Can anyone tell me why my generic CA42 cable doesn't work with my Nokia
6101? Is it because the phone only recognises "genuine" (ie very
expensive) Nokia cables? I have tried it with Nokia PC suite and a trial
of another programme but neither work.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    TIA,
    R.

Re: Generic cable for 6101 not working

    Hello!

If you are using non-original cable, then it is not CA-42, even if it is
written so on its package. CA-42 cables are manufactured by Nokia corp.
only. Nokia PC Suite recognizes only original cables, so if you are using
non-original cable, you should uninstall PC Suite.

    Oxygen Phone Manager II ( http://www.opm-2.com/opm2/ ) supports non-original
cables based on ProLific PL-2303 chipsets for Nokia 6101 phone. If your
cable driver's name is serv2pl.sys , then you are using this cable. In our
program in 'Tools' -> 'Options' just deselect 'DKU-5/CA-42' option, add your
cable's virtual COM port ( 'Add port' button) and leave its type as
    'DAU-9p/F-Bus'.

Using our program you can manager your phone's phonebook (including caller
group parameters, Lotus Notes import, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office
formats import and export, contact details modification), calendar and to-do
list ( Microsoft Outlook import and export available, agenda events details
modification), messages (you can save and restore SMS and MMS messages,
create and upload new SMS and MMS messages, send SMS messages via phone,
modify message details and create new message folders), manage your phone's
gallery ( upload new tones, themes, images and logos, save inbuilt
dictaphone voice records ), manage your JAVA midlets and games, view your
phone's model, firmware and hardware revision numbers, battery and signal
levels, view your phone's IMEI, MNC and MCC codes.

We also support this phone in Oxygen Phone Manager II Lite ( you can find
comparison matrix for Full and Lite version features here:
http://opm-2.com/OPM2Lite/ )and in Oxygen Express (
http://www.oxygen-express.com/ ). Oxygen Express is smart software product,
which allows to create your phone's backup (full or partial), restore backed
up information and erase unwanted data. Also you can upload images, tones
and JAVA midlets and games to your phone.

You can download Oxygen Phone Manager II free trial version here:

Oxygen Express free trial version is available here:

It doesn't work. The driver is ser2pl.sys and the port is
    COM8 [CA-42 to USB-to-serial-bridge] and selecting 'DAU-9p/F-Bus' gives
me an error of 'COM 8 Phone is not found'.

Upon connecting the cable to the phone, I get a message on the PHONE
SCREEN saying 'Data enhancement connected' then 'Enhancement not
supported'. Does this mean the phone can detect a generic cable and
    refuse to use it?

I might have to buy the [overpriced] genuine cable I think.

    Thanks for your help.
    R.

    Hello!

Unfortunately, in some cases the phone can detect non-original cable.

    Please, try the following:

    1. Uninstall the cable drivers and Nokia PC Suite ( if installed)
    2. Uninstall 'Nokia Connectivity cable driver' ( if installed )
    3. Download the most latest ProLific PL-2303 driver with XP-Certified logo
    here:
    http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID=31
    4. Install new drivers, reboot your PC and connect the cable (not phone).
    5. After the drivers are installed attach your phone to the cable. Disregard
any messages, that the phone displays.
    6. In Windows open 'Start' -> 'Settings' -> 'Control panel' -> 'System' ->
'Hardware' -> 'Device manager' -> 'Ports COM and LPT' and remember your
    cable's virtual COM port.
    7. Run the latest Oxygen Phone Manager II or Oxygen Express and set this
cable as virtual COM port with DAU-9p/F-Bus type. Make sure, that
DKU-2/CA-53 , IRDA and DKU-5/CA-42 options are not set. Press 'Ok' to
    confirm settings.
    8. If this doesn't work, please, change the cable's type to 'DLR-3/DLR-3p'
value. Some generic cables work only in this mode.

Does this help? Can you establish the connection now?
