There are even pure Java applications that run on may S40 phones (like
6230i), an example is nav4all. The capabilities of java only applications of
course being limited. I guess basically any S60 device can run a navigation
application, some are faster than others. S80 devices too. One just has to
be a bit careful when not all support the new S60 3.0 phones.

It is a matter of taste but if there is no in-built navigator in the car,
the navigation applications on a phone are a good option. Personally I would
not carry any stand alone navigator while the small BT GPS device is easy to
have almost everywhere. Even the map display is not that bad at all (I'm
used to an 8" display on my car!). Also the ones I've used are pretty fast
calculating a new route when necessary.

According to the TomTom web site, the following Nokia phones are
    compatible with TomTom 5 - 3230, 6260, 6600, 6630, 6670, 6680, 6681,
7610, N70, N90. You'd have to check for other versions of TomTom.

I have the 6680 and use TT5 via a bluetooth GPS receiver. I can still
use my bluetooth headset and make/receive calls when using the GPS.

    Hi Steve
    thanks for the info

I like 6680 but I could not find a good deal. the only good one is free
month free line rent on 12 month contract is on Mobileclub7 but they alot of
negative feedbacks about the cash back claims so then I thought if i gonna
have to pay for the phone i should buy some better ones like N70.

what is battery like on 6680 when you use satnav? Using two bluetooth
devices and tomtom application and answering call too. LOL
can you put it on charge in car while using tomtom?

Not answering on behalf of Steve but:
    - the display light consumes the most of the power while doing navigation
(unless you also happen to have an ongoing call). A proper navi application
can switch on display lights when needed, or allow continuous back light
    (when on charger).

The list of phones above did not include S60 3.0 phones, at least Navicore
has all new Nokias supported too. I guess TomTom would soon, if not yet.

    Hi Tim,

I got the phone for free - my son works for Orange and gets a free phone
every year; this was his old one - and it's not on contract.

Mine sits in a charger/hands free unit I got on eBay so it's constantly
charging. On the odd occasion I use it away from the car I get about 10
hours use from the phone battery. The BT GPS receiver I have uses the
same battery as the phone and is good for about 100 hours of use.

The only problem I have is that sometimes (maybe 1 in 10) after I've
cleared from a phone call TomTom doesn't automatically come back on but
if you re-start the programme it goes back to where you are and with the
route details so it's not really a hassle.

Picking up on Me's post. I have the 6680 set to dim the backlight after
about 1 minute and this still works in TomTom. You can still see the
display quite clearly and I find it less distracting when driving. The
screen comes back on bright when you get a voice instruction and if you
want to force the light back up to full brightness then you only have to
touch the control to adjust the volume.

It may be that TomTom support other phones with the newer version 6 of
    their programme ... I didn't check that.

    Thanks guys
    for the feedback

    I am going for N70.

might try N80 or hopefully N95 next year when the price cools down.
