I am looking for information about hacking Nokia 8310s. In partticular,
adding a bluetooth module onto the board. This may sound strange, but I
wonder if anyone has done this. The reason I ask is because the later
Nokia mobile phone don't have much style and I think the 8310 does. Its
simple, has a solid feel and looks rather sleek.

However, the only thing that stops me from picking one up is its lack of
bluetooth. I need this to connect to work over the GPRS connection from
either my PDA or laptop, neither of which have InfraRed nor serial
    connectors.

Has any brave soul ever 'integrated a BT module into the 8310, or would
it be possible to strip down another model and mount it inside the 8310
shell? Anyone done anything as strange as this?

    Cheers, Z.

Must be very challenging to do what you are after. Nokia itself has a BT
device that can be plugged to the pop-port to allow BT headset connection.
    But 8310 does not even have a pop-port connector(?). Building a pop-port
device that would emulate serial cable over BT shouldn't be impossible,
although not easy. If you don't find any of the new phones attractive, an
external IR port on your laptop could be a solution. You can also get a USB
to serial port adapter but even that does not help if there is no way for
serial connection to your 8310 phone.

    The 8310 doesn't have a pop-port. Nor a serial port. My laptop doesn't
have a IR port. I'll keep on hunting around.

Can you buy an external Infrared adapter for your laptop? It is much cheaper
than BT module for your cell phone.

Indeed I could, but I would actually like the 8310 to connect to my
Hewlett Packard hx4705 and that only has a BT and wifi connection.
