Not sure if this is a product code, but I read somewhere on the web that
the 6170 is RM-47. Haven't seen this info on Nokia's web site, so you
    may want to confirm.

The product code will vary dependant on the market it's sold in, which
    operator supplied it, etc.

So what product code do I change it to so that when I flash it using
the Nokia update service it gets the gneric firmware? It was supplied
on Orange but I want to remove the Orange branding etc.

So what product code do I change it to so that when I flash it using

a product code for the sim free version sold in Europe etc? It was
supplied on Orange but I want to remove the Orange branding etc.

Do you actually mean the firmware version, as found through the 'phone?
Don't know if the 6170 uses the same key code as my 6310i to display it but
    that uses *#0000#

As far as I'm aware, the product code is read directly from the handset by
NUS rather than being input by the user. If my information is correct,
you'd need to debrand it using something like UFS.

BTW, please don't top-post - it only makes the thread harder to follow.

Re: Product Code for Nokia 6170

I'm sorry about the top posting but I'm using Google groups and I don't
know I can change it from doing this.
I was told to change the product code using NSS to generic product code
then use Nokia update service to get the generic firmware. Likewise my
friend change the produce code of her 6630 so that she could get the
firmware with the Polish language pack from NUS.

Plenty of other people seem to manage.

Nemesis (NSS) is designed to be used with B-Phreaks hardware, and I've had
mixed results when testing it both with and without Prodigy or F1. If you
really want to take the risk of killing your phone drop me a mail off list
and I'll have a trawl through the firmware files and try to find you a
generic product code, but you're on your own if/when it goes wrong.

A friend of mine has access to Nokia's Phoenix software so he said he
would do it if I get the firmware files. Anyway I've sent you an email
and hope to hear from you shortly.

    Many thanks for your help.

Yep, got the mail. As soon as I get chance I'll have a trawl through the
ini files for an unbranded variant.

    Hi Richard,

Actually I've managed to get a copy of the firmware. However, I've
learnt that you can't flash DCT-4 phones using Phoenix and a USB cable.
    Unless I'm mistaken?

    Thanks.
