Not normally: cables that have this facility seem to be hard to track
down! It is for this reason I got hold of some in case anybody asked!

Sorry, I've NEVER seen a cable thats marked as "dku5/ca42" be a true ca42
cable. I've also never seen an after market cable that could work as a true
ca42 cable. Oh, and by the way, the 6101 can only use a ca42, not a dku5
cable. "Not Normally" is key for "I don't have a clue". Your message is
spam and didn't answer my question.

Perhaps if you got your head from up your knowledgable arse you might just
see a bit of light and twig who Mike is and that he does know what he's
talking about. You wanted what is a hybrid cable to do two jobs, he has a
few and he makes them available for pillocks like you to then decide they
    won't work and he's just a spammer.

    Tit!

I AM knowledgable about these cables. The DKU5 is a serial to usb
conversion cable, the ca42 is NOT. Anyone that tries to sell these as the
same cable is NOT selling a real ca42 compatable cable. Period!

Most cables that are designated as ca42 are fradulent at best. They "may"
work on a phone that can use either cable, but will NOT work on a phone that
    requires a true ca42.

Your the one that needs to "get your head from up your knowledgable arse".

Perhaps you would like to explain to me how I have so many users of my
software using Prolific cables with the Nokia 6101 then?

I get hundreds of support requests every week, and nobody ever has the
concerns you mention about their third party cables not working with
these phones (especially because the manufacturers of these cables have
a tendency to put my site as their tech support address on the
packaging, as well as old pirate versions of my software - *sigh* it
would be nice if people didn't expect everything to be free).

I bought some cheapo "DKU-5" clone piece of junk that didn't work
at all with my E70. This cable works:

And my fone doesn't charge thru the edge connector, it has a round
power plug, but that's powered from USB.

The Nokia E-Series, and quite a few other models, use DKU-2's/CA-53's,
    not DKU-5/CA-42 style cables.

Phones that need DKU-2/CA-53 cables are themselves USB devices and
don't need serial-USB converters - perhaps this was what the person
earlier in the thread was trying to get at. The CA-42 is *not* the
    same thing as the CA-53.

Your "cheapo DKU-5" cable most likely didn't work for you because it is
simply the wrong type of cable for your phone. The confusion comes
mainly from the fact that they Nokia decided to use identical
connectors, but they are not the same. The CA-70 is a CA-53 with an
    integrated charger connector.

Just in case everyone is confused at this point, this thread was about
the Nokia 6101, which uses neither the CA-70 nor CA-42.

The "cheapo DKU-5" cable probably didn't work because it is the
incorrect cable for your phone. The Nokia E-Series and quite a few
others do *not* use CA-42 or DKU-5 style cables, they use DKU-2 or
CA-53 cables instead (Nokia in their wisdom decided to make them all
    have identical connectors).

Perhaps this was what the earlier poster was trying to get at when he
said that CA-42's didn't contain serial-USB converters. It is the
CA-53 that doesn't contain the converter, not the CA-42.

The CA-70 linked to above is a CA-53 cable with an integrated charger
    adapter.

Just in case everybody is confused at this point, this thread was about
the Nokia 6101, which uses neither the CA-53, DKU-2 nor CA-70.
