Are sms's stored to the phone or the sim card? If the sim card, can it be
changed to store to phone? And how? I know the phonebook can be stored to
    either.

    Thank-you

It depends on the model of phone, although most Nokia phones now days
can store them in the phone or even memory card (not SIM).

Re: Where Are Text Messages Stored?

Nokia Series 40 version 3.0 phones store them in the phone's memory. You can watch SIM SMS messages from the phone's menu, but all new messages go to the phone's memory. In Symbian phones you can select where to store the messages bank (in the phone's memory or on a flash-card).
In simple phones like Nokia 3310 or 2110 SMS messages are stored on a SIM-card.

In Symbian phones you can retrieve messages from a SIM card to the messages bank and change the bank's storage ( flash-card to the phone's memory or vice versa).
