Nokia 6610 Vibrate

Most probably know this, but I just discovered it, and I was
frustrated with how long it took me to figure it out. I was trying to
figure out why vibrate wasn't working on my new phone. I guess a
"feature" of the Nokia 6610 is to suprress vibration while charging.

Yep, I've always noticed this with my Nokias. My feeling is that when you're
charging the phone, you have it on a table or something rather than in your
pocket/handbag, and so vibration is not required. Perhaps there is another
reason for it, but this has always been my view.

So it doesn't shake the charging cable out? The vibrate on my 6100 can be
pretty violent if its not cushioned by soft tissue...

Yeah, how often have you had a phone 'walk' off a table, especially whilst a
reminder is beeping at you and you can't be bothered going and getting it
immediately?
if this happened when it was charging, it could have potentially disastrous
consequences... phone leaps a metre onto slate tiles or something similar,
could be fatal for the phone.
most of the time my phone's in my pocket though, so the temperature feature
[5100] is kind of useless... ranges from 31-35 degrees celcius... lol.

Nokia seem to have assumed that you watch over your phone whilst it's
charging, asking "is it done yet? is it done yet?" - why else would
they animate the battery meter whilst charging? It's intended to keep
you looking at the display so inevitably you'll know when it rings and
the phone will charge faster if it doesn#t vibrate whilst charging.

Nokia haven't assumed anything. The purpose of animating the battery display
when charging is to indicate that a) it's charging or b) it's fully charged.
I doubt very much if anyone charges their phone while in their
pocket??...hence the reason for no vibrate when charging.

And another MidiBuddy muppet spins a line of toss. The vibrate function is
disabled in virtually all modern mobile phones for exactly the same reason -
to stop it rattling itself off the desk/table etc. that it's resting on
whilst charging, and damaging itself on the floor.

If the phone didn't have some kind of display to show that it was charging,
how would you know if it was actually charging, or was fully charged.

Why am I not surprised that your ill-thought-out answer comes from a forum
where they seem to have no idea what usenet is?
