Infra Red adapter abroad

I am in the UK and would like an infra red adapter to use between my PC
(Win XP) and Nokia 6100. A friend is travelling to Hong Kong this week on
business and I was going to ask him to buy me one over there.

Neither of us know much about this so if I just tell him to find me a
"USB infra red adapter" will this be ok? Are there different versions
that can only be used on certain pcs/phones? Should he be able to get
them from the local mobile phone shops? How much cheaper is it likely to
be over there? I have found one on ebay for about £18 exc delivery.

Sorry, another question - should the adapter come with a CD for
installation, and if not, can this be downloaded from the Internet?

I bought an IR adapter in Hong Kong last year, but I think I paid
about the same as you've seen it for on eBay. You might get it a
little cheaper in Hong Kong, but for that kind of money I wouldn't get
too excited about any saving.

A good place to find that kind of thing is the computer shopping
centre in Wanchai, between Lockhart Road and Hennessy Road. Its
located right outside one of the entrances to the Wanchai MTR. Take
the exit that says "Southorn Garden"

Yes, it should come with a CD with the drivers on, but I found a later
version of them on the manufacturer's website.

I bought one from the www.ebuyer.com site for about £12.50 incl VAT and
delivery. Works fine between my laptop and Nokia 7110

I was in Maplins the other day (a usb one), and saw one for about £20.
Buying it somewhere like that means you can take it back if it stops working
(although I'd be tempted by the £12.50 one I must admit).

Thanks everyone for your replies. I will just go with the ebuyer one to
save the hassle and it's not too expensive.
